Ring the changes in the living room

You know those interior magazines where they feature the abode of some effortlessly stylish individual who's home just happens to be magazine shoot ready at all times?, Well why not have a bit of that lifestyle for your self? It's easier than it looks. Start with a key piece of furniture you love, and work out from there, because once you know what you want to centre your look around it all becomes so much easier. So for example if you chose the Jual Scandinavian range of media and occasional furniture units you can go a number of ways. A classic geometric print in a muted colour pallet of moss green, slate grey and lichen yellow is always going to be a winner and works a treat with the warmer tones of teak and walnut furniture. Then you can decide whether you prefer pattern or plain. If you like a bit of pattern then it's well worth considering wallpaper. I know that it can feel a little daunting papering a whole room both in terms of impact and effort but a feature wall can be just the job for adding interest without overpowering the space.

If you prefer to stick to paint then the same sort of effect can be achieved through simple colour blocking of particular areas. Alcoves and nooks take on a whole new personality when picked out in an interesting colour and prove the perfect foil for mid century glass ware and ceramics to be displayed against. Another low effort high impact decorating tip is to bring in texture and colour with rugs, cushions and throws. It's easy to put together a coordinated look that you can change as the mood takes by selecting a restricted pallet of colours and theming your soft furnishings around it. That way you can bring in some variation with texture and material while still tying everything together well. For example mohair cushions look fabulous teamed with an Arran knit throw, the beauty coming from the use of the same material but handled in a very different way, bring in a gorgeous wool rug and the look is complete. It also give you a high degree of versatility as you can then mix and match in new pieces as fashions and your tastes change.

Coffee Tables

Coffee tables come in a wide range of shapes, sizes and designs leaving your style options open. Coffee tables are typically wide and low, perhaps with a lower shelf or even built in drawer storage. These pieces can take up quite a large proportion of your living room so it's well worth looking at designs that work hard by providing those extra places to tuck away every day items and help to keep you space clean and clutter free. We have a large range of tables available as we know that our customers are a diverse group and have many different wants and needs. Glass top tables are ever popular. Not only are they easy to care for but also reflect light and allow the eye to pass through which increases the feeling of space. A classic wooden table can add warmth and charm to an interior and some of our industrial pieces will even look better with age and use so feel free to treat them roughly!

Nest of Tables

If you've not ventured into nest of tables territory yet it's well worth a look. Once the preserve of a grandma's living room nests are having a renaissance as people realise the value of having additional tables readily at hand. As with coffee tables every possible permutation is out there from classic oak nests to contemporary chrome and glass designs. I particularly love the angular lines of a hair pin leg and any nod towards mid century design is a winner for me, but whatever your furniture peccadillo feel free to indulge it at FADS where we will be delighted to help you find your perfect match.

Lamp Tables

Picture the scene, soft lighting, a squashy feather filled sofa, glass of wine and your favourite box set and this is where the lamp table comes to the fore. Perfect for creating that low level lighting, and in just the right place to keep your drink within easy reach. A matching pair of lamp tables either end of a sofa is an interior designers go to, creating symmetry and balance with effortless ease.

Television in mind

If you've not gone down the wall mounted TV route then media/TV storage is very important in terms of room layout and functionality. Media stands come in a variety of heights and sizes which means that you can choose the one that work best for your space. If you have low slung seating or formal sofas this will impact on your choice of unit as you will want to ensure that you get the most comfortable viewing experience. Some units are open and very simple while others provide lots of storage that allows you to stow away other media equipment and cabling to keep you living room tidy.

Chairs & Seating

From armchair to sofas, occasional chairs to rocking chairs how you furnish your living room will largely be driven by how you will use it. A formal reading chair will provide support and comfort while a pillowy sofa will give you just the place to relax and unwind after a long day. Corner sofas can help to maximise space in smaller living rooms or to delineate spaces within larger living areas.

At FADS we have it all and on the off chance we don't then let us know what you are looking for and we will do our best to track down just what you're looking for.
